Hudson, Wisconsin (PRWEB) February 22, 2012
Into their fifth year, Nashwauk Ambulance Service (NAS) is still finding EMS Manager meeting and exceeding their scheduling needs. As a paid volunteer service where members respond to calls from their homes, NAS needed a scheduling system that made sense for how they operated – and having a paper billboard schedule at the base station, requiring members come in or call to learn the call schedule wasnt it. In the winter of 2007, EMS Coordinator Karen Calaguire decided it was time to try something new to help with their scheduling woes and decided to try an Aladtec online scheduling system called, EMS Manager.
Calaguire remembers, As manager of our service, I needed to find a way to make scheduling as easy and painless as possible for my employees. The scheduling process should be viewable and usable from the comfort of their own home or on-the-go from their smartphones. I was looking for a user-friendly and clutter-free system that had add-ons allowing me to track employee scheduling and other data. Pricing was also a factor in choosing a scheduling system. I heard about EMS Manager through web searches and ads in public safety magazines and after trying a demo, I knew it was the answer to our problems.
On top of employee scheduling, EMS Manager provides many more applications for Nashwauk Ambulance Service. Over the years, Calaguire and the rest of the NAS staff have enjoyed using the built-in library and its massive 200GB of online storage for continuing education tracking. The member database serves as their hub for tracking employee credentials and the integrated reporting provides different views of productivity data. One feature in particular Calaguire still gets a lot of use from is the ability to send emails/text messages to employees directly from the system.
The most important feature over the years, shares Calaguire, is that members have their schedule accessible from home or on their handheld which translates into employees showing up for their scheduled call shift!! It has taken all my headaches out of scheduling by making my employees more accountable. As a volunteer paid on call service, we are bit different from a full-time department and this system meets and exceeds my needs for scheduling!
The Nashwauk Ambulance Service is one of over 130 public safety agencies within Minnesota and Wisconsin who use EMS Manager or FIRE Manager for employee scheduling and workforce management. Located in Nashwauk, Minnesota, NAS has been in operation for over 50 years serving the Itasca County population of 5,000 and performing over 500 runs annually.
Aladtec, Inc. is a provider of web-based software solutions for employee scheduling and workforce management applications. The companys flagship products, EMS Manager and FIRE Manager, are leaders in the public safety sector and together serve more than 750 EMS and fire departments, and more than 45,000 employees. Elberton, GA (PRWEB) February 25, 2012
Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has joined forces with Medical Indicators, Incorporated (MII), to offer clinical thermometers to a larger consumer base. Established in 1988 and headquartered in Pennington, New Jersey, MII specializes in the manufacture of single-use and reusable clinical thermometers under the trade names of NexTemp and TraxIt. Their products are FDA registered Class I medical devices and hold many certifications, including conformation to ASTM E and EN requirements, and US Patents. Their thermometers meet or exceed the temperature measurement requirements of major clinical institutions. MII services medical, industrial and consumer markets worldwide, including hospitals, clinics, blood donation centers, dialysis centers, safety and first aid kits, and pandemic flu kits.
Accurate, economical and easy to use, MII’s thermometers and packaging are also latex-free. Their NexTemp disposable thermometers are an evolutionary leap beyond older generation disposable devices in that they do not require controlled storage conditions to operate properly. NexTemp can be left on counter tops, kept in warm automobiles and ambulances, carried in uniform pockets and used in all other environments regardless of temperature, yet they still remain highly accurate. One of the biggest reasons to switch from using the old tympanic, glass, electronic predictive or digital electronic thermometers to NexTemp disposable thermometers is enhanced infection control. Hospital-acquired infections have reached epidemic levels, with MRSA, VRE and multi-antibiotic resistant TB causing extended hospital stays for patients, costing an average of $ 40,000 per incident for a national level exceeding $ 4 billion. The potential cost saving for avoiding even one hospital acquired infection can easily pay for a whole year’s supply of NexTemp disposable thermometers.
MII’s TraxIt is a disposable, wearable thermometer which enables continuous axillary temperature readings for up to forty-eight hours, and is easily applied with its gentle medical tape backing. While most axillary temperatures are taken improperly because proper dwell times are usually not feasible, the TraxIt system allows continuous monitoring, providing a much more accurate reading. TraxIt is a great thermometer solution for pediatric patients, patients who are intubated or cannulated, and post-anesthesia and ICU patients. We are delighted to offer these reusable and wearable thermometers from Medical Indicators to more healthcare consumers, said Hulet Smith, Founder and CEO of Rehabmart. These innovative and state-of-the-art temperature taking devices will help control the spread of infection at any healthcare facility, and we know our professional customers will greatly appreciate how positively that affects their bottom line of cost efficiency.

Once a patient has arranged a MedFlight911 air ambulance flight, they often have questions about what they should bring with them for the trip. To help you out, we’ve put together the following list of some of the items you might want to think about bringing with you during an air ambulance journey:
Your carry-on bag. Space on an air ambulance is limited, so we suggest that each passenger bring only one carry-on bag (the bag should be no larger than 22″x14″x9″ – a typical carry-on size). The amount of luggage that will fit depends of course on the type and size of the airplane, as well as whether there are any passengers accompanying the patient (and how many), and on the number of medical personnel and equipment required to meet the needs of the patient, given his or her condition.
If you have luggage that you need to transport that will not fit on the airplane, we can work with you to find a cost-effective shipping option. (You’ll be responsible for the cost of shipping additional luggage.) Discuss your luggage needs with your MedFlight911 transport specialist so he or she can assist you with your luggage options.
Reading material. If you’re accompanying a family member on a long air ambulance flight, you may want to bring books or magazines to read yourself or read to the patient.
Electronic devices. Generally, electronic devices (such as digital cameras, iPods, cell phones, computers and DVD players) can be used during the flight. However, we do ask that you check with the flight crew before using any electronic devices in flight.
Pets. We understand that our patients or their family members may be more comfortable if they can travel with their pet. While we can’t guarantee you’ll be able to bring your pet, we’ll do our best to accommodate your desire to travel with your pet (please contact us in advance with your request). If your pet is authorized to travel, it must be current on vaccinations and travel in an approved pet carrier. Your pet won’t be allowed out of the carrier during the flight.
Passport or other travel documents. If you’re traveling to or from an international destination, the patient and each accompanying passenger will need to bring their passport and any other necessary travel documents.
Medications for passengers. Of course we will bring all of the proper medication and medical equipment necessary to care for the patient during the air ambulance transport. But sometimes, accompanying passengers may have conditions for which they’re taking medication. Don’t forget to pack any medication you might need during flight. We also ask that you mention any health conditions you have to the MedFlight911 air ambulance crew, just in case you need medical attention during the flight.
Comfortable clothing. The temperature on the aircraft can fluctuate. The flight crew will ensure the patient’s temperature comfort throughout the transport process by adding or removing blankets. We suggest that accompanying passengers wear layers so you are comfortable during the flight. (Of course, please notify the flight crew if you need the temperature adjusted.)
There are also a few items you don’t need to bring, including:
Drinks and snacks. These will be provided during transit. On long flights, you may be served a meal.
Extra luggage. Air ambulances aren’t equipped to transport lots of luggage. We ask that you limit your baggage to a single carry-on item.
Patient-owned oxygen cylinder. Only FAA approved and secured oxygen cylinders can be brought on board the airplane; we will bring oxygen and any other medical equipment necessary.
Our goal is to make the air medical transport process and smooth and stress-free as possible. If you have any questions about what you can bring with you on your flight, just ask. We’re here to help!
